With quite a few successful shows to his credit,when Farhan was asked, what does he prefer, performing live or recording in a studio?
''They are two very different experiences, not even remotely in the same ball park. When I am recording in the studio I am more responsible to the music director and when I am live on stage I am responsible to the audience. Performing live is enjoyable and there's an energy about it'', he says.
For an actor who started his career playing a rockstar in Rock On! It's amazing that he is now one in real life as well!
The singer/actor is all set to rock Chennai along with his band, Farhan Live! The evening will also have an opening act by Papon.

A powerhouse of talent, creativity and a cinematic genius, Farhan Akhtar is an actor, director, producer, singer and writer. He is the son of noted lyricist Javed Akhtar and screenwriter Honey Irani. At the age of 17, Farhan worked as an assistant director on films like Lamhe (1991) and Himalay Putra (1997). He made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy, Dil Chahta Hai (2001), a trendsetting film that went on to attain cult status and become one of the most iconic movies of Bollywood. The movie also bagged several awards including a National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
His next venture was the critically acclaimed Lakshya (2004), a coming-of-age flick that received praise across the globe. He then went on to direct the official remake of the cult classic Don (2006), starring Shah Rukh Khan. Apart from directing, Farhan is also an A-list actor and made his acting debut with the blockbuster, Rock On!! (2008). He also lent his voice to the chartbusters in the film. Farhan then appeared in Zoya Akhtar's directorial debut Luck By Chance (2009), Karthik Calling Karthik (2011) and the blockbuster Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011). Later that year, he directed the hit action drama, Don 2. In 2013, Farhan was set in cast as Milkha Singh in the critically acclaimed biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which went on to win every major award that year. Farhan also hosted the television show, Oye! It's Friday!. He recently launched a social campaign, Men Against Rape and Discrimination (MARD), which demands safety for women. He has also formed a rock band called Farhan Live and performs at events and music festivals across India. He was last seen in Dil Dhadakne Do (2015). Farhan's next film Wazir, is set to release in January 2016.
Papon (Angaraag Mahanta) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and one of the most powerful new voices in India. While rooted in folk, Papon has a wide variety of influences and is an extremely versatile artist and a composer. Papon was born in Assam, India, to a set of brilliant musicians of Assam and was introduced to music and its intricacies at a very early age. His mother Archana Mahanta and father Khagen Mahanta are two very popular and respected musicians of the region. Coming from a musically attuned family, music has always been in his blood. His inspirations came from the wide array of sound that he has been exposed to from the traditional Folk songs of Eastern India to new-age electronica. His initial training has been in Indian classical and traditional music (devotional and folk) from Assam. His innovative experiments are rich with ambient electronica, acoustic folk, electro ghazals, new-age, Ind-classical sounds. Papon has featured on both the seasons of Coke Studio India as a singer in Season I and In Season II. Apart from performing as a singerin Nitin Sawhney's episode he also has produced one track in the multi producer episode. He is considered the 'Find' of Coke Studio India. In Coke Studio Season 3 (2013), Papon is a producer of one full episode, composing & producing 6 tracks.
Papon's long-standing collaboration with pioneering producers Midival Punditz have led to songs he's co-composed like Har Ek Baat and Naina Laagey finding their way to Bollywood film soundtracks like Soundtrack. Papon has collaborated with renowned composer-multi instrumentalist Karsh Kale on the track Absence for his fifth studio album Cinema. With Sushmit Sen (of Indian Ocean) he has collaborated on the track The Voyage on his first solo album Depths of The Ocean. Papon also has collaborated with percussionist Bickram Ghosh and rising Scottish singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni, over a project called Troikala rooted in contemporary folk and an initiative of The British Council; they've performed across the country and in the UK (South Bank Center) and will soon release an album.
Papon has been very selectively contributing to Bollywood playback singing. He has sung tracks like Jiyein Kyun for film Dum Maaro Dum, Kyun from Barfi, Zindagi Aisi Waisi for film I Am Kalam, theme song for Inkaar and also recently Kaun Mera in the film Special Chabbis.
Recently he has also sang in Chor Chor super Chor, Madras Cafe (music by Shantanu Moitra), Satyagrah, etc
