About The Event

Whitathon is L V Prasad Eye Institute’s annual run to raise awareness for early detection and treatment of life-threatening retinoblastoma eye cancer in children. Additionally, the funds raised for the run are utilized for treating poor children suffering from eye cancer at no cost to them, and also for conducting future research on new treatment options for this alarming disease. For the past two years, LVPEI has been successfully organizing this run in Hyderabad. Last year, the run had around 3000 participants and through the funds raised was able to provide 1613 treatments to children in need.

This year, we are excited to bring Whitathon to Vijayawada and look forward to having all of you on board as our runners. Run for good health, run for a good cause!

About L V Prasad Eye Institute: Established in 1987, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness, is a comprehensive eye health facility. Read more https://www.lvpei.org/about-us

About Retinoblastoma: It is one of the rarer cancers prevalent today and most commonly (90%) affects children below 3 years of age. Over the past decade, LVPEI has treated more than 2000 patients with retinoblastoma eye cancer. Over 60 to 65% of these patients cannot afford the expense of the treatment, and LVPEI subsidizes it at no cost to the poor patient’s family. LVPEI treats 200 to 250 new cases every year, of which 40% are in late stages and 10% are in very late stages.
