The art of Khadi weaving is an age-old tradition that stands at the brink of extinction today. This Diwali, spanning over 22nd, 23rd and 24th of August, join Virsa's Khadi handloom workshop in an unwinding session, where one imbibes the skills of weaving and spinning from the master weavers of Kutch.
During the three day foundation workshop we cover the basics of handloom setup, spinning and weaving. This can be followed up with a 8 day next level advanced residential course in Kutch scheduled for December.
The objective of the workshop is to create awareness and promote Khadi to enable a better future for the weavers. When you wear a Khadi garment, you revisit the traditions and help to support the sustainability of the artisans.
Virsa is a small attempt to revive the magic of Khadi, to create eco-friendly, zero carbon footprint products, to achieve inclusive growth and to share happiness and prosperity.
This is a social impact initiative by Verry India, a start-up design agency based out of Pune, specialising in quirky illustrations and products inspired by the cultural potpourri of India.
Virsa means cultural roots in Punjabi. Our aim is to ensure that our art and cultural heritage finds a place in the new world. Today, most of our art forms are on the verge of extinction, and our artisans – the custodians of India's rich legacy, are languishing in poverty.
