British Council invites young learners to a session on ‘Know Your Classics’ with A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, we are happy to invite you to a storytelling performance on one of the best-loved stories in all of children's literature, “A little Princess”.

The heroine of this story, little Sara Crewe, is an exceptionally intelligent and imaginative student at Miss Minchin's Select Seminary for Young Ladies, who is devastated when her adored, indulgent father dies. Penniless and banished to a room in the attic, Sara is demeaned, abused, and forced to work as a servant. Sara Crewe learns that deep down, being a real princess is an attitude of the heart. How this resourceful girl's fortunes change again is at the centre of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic tale, set in 19th century London.

Parents are also welcome to participate in the session along with their wards.

Age Group: 6 - 10 years

About the Storyteller, Ms Shreya Biswas:

This programme is facilitated by Shreya Biswas, who is the founder of Katharangam. Shreya is a trained storyteller, a story lover, and a firm believer in the power of stories. A graduate in chemistry from Calcutta University, her love for children made her an early childhood educator. An alumna of Children's Little Theatre, Kolkata, it was a natural transition for her from being a teacher, to being a storyteller and performer.  Shreya has an amazing ability to make an instant connection with children. She often uses visual art as an aid for storytelling, and her performances are a treat for the senses, as she brings her stories alive with songs, picture cards, glove puppets, and paintings.  Shreya trains teachers to help integrate stories into education. She also trains aspiring storytellers, both adult and children. Shreya spreads the magic of stories through her dream initiative, Katharangam.
