Santhosh Kumar Hegde's tryst with music goes back a long way. A film buff in his teenage years, he eagerly awaited the release of the latest Hindi films. When the numerous songs served as a source of break/interval for the rest of the audience, he would be the only one to stay back to listen and learn the lyrics to each of the tracks, thus beginning his journey into the world of music. A self-taught musician, Hegde owes his learning to All India Radio and films of the yesteryears. Like every performing artist, he yearned to connect with people through his music. The opportunity presented itself in the year 1966. A group of local musicians came together and organised a stage show, "Young Talents' Night" at the Don Bosco Hall in Mangalore. Since then, Santhosh Hegde has completed over 10,000 performances, of which 1,001 have been stage shows across the country. The ease with which he switches between genres and a versatile repertoire ranging from Ghulam Ali to Arijit Singh surely marks his eloquence in music. This year marks 50 years of his singing career and to celebrate this milestone, a "Golden Jubilee Show" is being organised on the 22nd October '16 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru.
Mithila Hegde has been sharing the stage with her father since the age of 9. A filmmaker by profession, she will be performing with Mr. Hegde. The other vocalists performing at the event are Ahmed Ali, a renowned Hindustani/Sufi artiste from Kolkata; and Shruti Bhide, a popular singer/theatre performer based in Bangalore. The band comprises of a 15-member orchestra from Kerala, who have played for the likes of Yesudas, S. Janaki, and Unnikrishnan, to name a few.
Come join us as we share musical memoires of over 5 decades.
