*A world will stand still
A world will pay heed
A world can begin
To turn around
In the quiet spinning
Of a wheel*
Santati is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi; conceptualised and curated by Lavina Baldota, custodian of The Abheraj Baldota Foundation that promotes and preserves Gandhian philosophies and ways of life.
The exhibit features textile designer Gaurang Shah’s woven interpretation of thirty paintings from artist Raja Ravi Varma’s repertoire in “Khadi – A Canvas“, as a wearable art. Mythological scenes have been transferred, warp by warp on to the pallus of saris hand spun in khadi and naturally dyed silk yarns set in exquisite Jamdani weaves.
Couturier Jean François Lesage shows the influence of the Mahatma as he interprets letters hand-written by Gandhi and the route of the Dandi March, through couture embroidery, on khadi.
We would like to cordially invite you for a visit to The Katurbhai Lalbhai Museum, Ahmedabad to see the magnificent effort of the artisans who are behind crafting these masterpieces.
