Trip Details

When your guide puts his hand up and motions for you to crouch down, you’ll know why. In the near distance, a silverback gorilla settles down to eat. Opportunities like these exist on this unique and life-changing adventure through Rwanda and Uganda. Deepen your understanding of Africa’s primates and you’ll deepen your understanding of all of us.

Itinerary - 9 Days

Day 1 — Kigali
Arrive at any time. Arrival transfer is included.

Day 2 — Kigali/Volcanoes National Park
Visit the unforgettable Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about a tragic period in Rwanda’s past. Then take a walk through Nyamirambo Township and enjoy a local lunch at the Nyamirambo Women’s Centre. Continue north into the hills to our lodge, located just outside Volcanoes National Park. Settle in and relax, taking in stunning views of the surrounding volcanic peaks. (1B, 1L, 1D)

Days 3 & 4 — Volcanoes National Park
Head into the jungle-covered slopes of the park with a guide. Search for gorilla families, and then sit quietly to observe them in their natural habitat—a truly life-changing experience. Join a park warden for a talk about these endangered creatures, which have seen an encouraging growth in their numbers over the past decade. The next day, go out with a guide in search of another species that inhabits these hills: the golden monkey. Take a stroll through a nearby village this afternoon. (2B, 2L, 2D)

Days 5, 6, & 7 — Queen Elizabeth National Park
Cross into Uganda and arrive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Trek in search of chimpanzees and enjoy a safari drive with possible sightings of buffalo and lions. Then cruise the Kazinga Channel to view hippos and birds, and, with a bit of luck, elephants or big cats. (3B, 3L, 3D)

Day 8 — Entebbe
After breakfast, head to Entebbe with a stop at the Equator and a visit to a royal drum maker’s workshop. (1B, 1L)
