Short Rajmachi History..
In 1657, Shivaji Maharaj captured this fort from the Adilshahi ruler of Bijapur. In 1704, the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb captured the fort from the Marathas. However, the Marathas regained its control in 1705. In 1713, Shahu Maharaj handed over Rajmachi fort to Kanhoji Angre. Eventually in 1818 the British acquired the control of Rajmachi
Historically, Rajmachi fort was a strategic fort to control Borghat(ghat between Khopoli and Khandala on Mumbai-Pune route) which was a historical trade route. The other route is from Lonavala, which is almost a plain walk of about 15 km. In rainy season this region all the more beautiful with silvery water falls, streams and lush green forests and meadows
Rajmachi (Udhewadi) is a small village in the rugged mountains of Sahyadri in India. The fortification at Rajmachi consists of two forts, namely Shrivardhan fort and Manaranjan Fort. Rajmachi Fort is a popular trekking destination.
A half an hours climb from Udhewadi takes one to the plateau connecting Shrivardhan and Manoranjan the twin forts of Rajmachi. A small temple with the idols of Kalbhairav and Jogeshwari is in this temple. There is a cannon placed in front of the temple. A 15 mins walk over a narrow ridge takes one to Shrivardhan and a similar trek to the other end of Rajmachi would take one to Manoranjan! There are two water tanks at the top of the hill but one of them has an iron pillar in it. Manaranjan fort is 2700 feet high which makes it lower than the neighboring Shreevardhan fort. It has three gates and large ramparts. From here Karnala fort can be seen. There are some water tanks at the summit
