Mahalaya Paksha, also called Pitru Paksha, is the most critical fortnight of the year for you to perform Tarpanam for your ancestors. Every year during the Mahalaya Amavasya period, millions of Pitrus (ancestors) descend to the Earth plane to receive your offerings through Tarpanam and bestow their blessings on you- these blessings have the power to change your destiny. This fortnight window is when you can seek help from your ancestors to dissolve the karma affecting all aspects of your present life, including your health, wealth, career, and relationships.

Dr. Pillai explains that Pitrus are your exalted ancestors who are highly evolved souls. They wield greater influence over your life than divine Deities, including their power to protect and bless you. Mahalaya is the most critical time of year to receive your lifetime blessings from your exalted ancestors. Gaining their blessings is considered critical to overcoming chronic problems and lead a fulfilling life.

Dr. Pillai says that even enlightened yogis and rishis wait for the Mahalaya time each year to obtain blessings from their ancestors. It is critical to perform Tarpanam (Ancestral Offering) during Mahalaya Paksha as it can dissolve two types of ancestral karma to help you witness miracles in your life. The first type is the karma that blocks the liberation of your ancestors, and the second is the karma that prevents you from receiving the blessings of your ancestors. The Markandeya Purana states that when the ancestors are contented with the Tarpanam, they bestow the performer of the rituals with wealth, knowledge, and healthy life.
