Ishanya Art and Culture Club gears up to recreate the effervescent cultural ambience with a scintillating dance ballet, Urmila: The Forgotten Wife, an adaptation of Pervin Saket’s celebrated novel Urmila, on Saturday, 26th November 2016 from 7:30 pm onwards at Ishanya Amphitheatre. Inspired by the ignored story of Urmila, Laxman’s wife from the Ramayana, the narrative explores her loneliness and rejection on being left behind, rekindling questions of devotion and desire, in modern-day India.
From the graceful and sculpturesquely sequences of Bharatanatyam, and the evocative movements of Odissi, to the narrative power of Kathak and the poignancy of poetry in the author’s own words, Urmila: The Forgotten Wife is a visual treat and an unparalleled journey across time and art. The performance will also be followed by an interaction with the audience, providing a behind-the-scenes look at Urmila’s journey and a discussion on her space in our lives today.
The ISHANYA Art and Culture Club has been instrumental in reviving and promoting art forms that have contributed significantly in building the Indian heritage thus providing them a platform to perform and be appreciated. For more info, you can visit: www.ishanya.com/iacc
