Beat Cancer… Beyond COVID19

Grace Cancer Run Is back, and this time virtually. Although the world is undergoing with pandemic situations, it is also necessary not to ignore cancer at any cost. Can we neglect cancer awareness in this time of covid19? And the absolute answer is NO. We would rather say the price of ignoring cancer can be heavy given that many presents in late stage. Hence let us just not focus our attention to covid but simultaneously keep wide awake to any symptoms which are unusual and report to the doctor at the earliest, because early detection saves lives. Yes, it is Good news that most cancers are curable with the advanced treatment but remember, this is possible only when we detect the tumor at the early stages. Unfortunately, most people are still unaware of this deadly disease and cannot recognize it until the tumor reaches the critical stages. So, it is paramount to bring awareness about cancer and save precious lives.

Covid times have made cancer to take back seat and people are presenting late. Let us bounce back to restore our health.

Officially, The Grace Cancer Foundation is organizing its third edition of Global Cancer Run with the theme ‘Beat Cancer…Beyond COVID-19’ and is warmly welcoming you to take part in the event and providing a platform for you to contribute to society in bringing awareness. Let us bounce back to routineness and make a worthy decision to participate in virtual run.

Why are we opting for a virtual run this year?

Either in normal situation or in pandemic, We as Grace Cancer Foundation are determined to continue our fight against cancer. So, during these unprecedented times due to COVID-19, it is our predominant part to ensure the safety and goodness of our participants. So, this year, we have narrowed down to conduct this event virtually. In this virtual run, we are happy to say that you can comfortably participate by running at the comfort of your house on a treadmill or a nearby jogging track and reach the mentioned distance in the given timeframe.

There are events for all fitness levels:

  • 5K
  • 10K
  • 21.1K (Half Marathon)

Besides creating awareness, this virtual run serves as an add-on to stay fit and healthy. Do not forget that you are also boosting up your physical and mental health during this pandemic by taking part in this cancer run. So, if you are someone looking out to join an event and extend your share of charity while you are equally getting benefited both physically and mentally, then this is the best choice for you! Now, take part in the exciting Virtual Run with the Grace Cancer Foundation and get ready to don yet another hat.

Our Objectives for this Virtual Run

  • To promote the sport of Running (Physical activity) in India and Globe at large, including Race walking and Half marathon.
  • To mobilize funds for the needy patients diagnosed with any type of cancer. No patients should be deprived of treatment for lack of financial support.
  • To Organize domestic and international cancer runs.
  • To run Virtual-based Cancer awareness program and spread the Cancer knowledge across the globe.
  • To help people lead active lifestyles by making running preferred form of fitness activity.

Our Mission for this Virtual Run

  • To promote physical activity as a means to prevent cancer in the society.
  • To make meaningful and significant impact on people lives by creating awareness about Cancer.

Basic Layout of how the Virtual Run will be held:

  1. The registered runners will receive an e-bib (i.e. a personalized, printable picture) in their respective mails. We prefer that you print it out and pin it to your T-shirt/Running Vest, as we want to make it feel like an event and not a solo run.
  2. On the day of the event, i.e. 11th October, 2020, the runners are requested to start between 5 to 7 A.M. and finish latest by 9 A.M., in the respective local time of their cities.
  3. If, for some reason out of control, the runners aren’t able to start the run between the aforementioned times, they can complete it before the end of the day.
  4. The runners are also requested to carry a water bottle or an energy drink and also a few snacks so as to stay hydrated and energized all through the run. The runners are also requested to maintain personal safety during the entirety of the run
  5. Runners are requested to run outside, along the route of their choice which is safe and has least traffic, if due to weather or other uncontrollable situations, the runners can run indoors. If the participants aren’t able to complete the entire race, they are requested to run within comfortable distance.
  6. Strava is the preferred app for recording the run. Please make sure to have sufficient charge in your device to capture the entire run without any hiccups. After the completion of the run, the runners are requested to post the distance of the run along with a selfie or photograph with the bib on the chest to
  7. Note: Runners can record the total time in a watch or any timing or running app and are requested to share the public link of the activity which has date, distance, pace, and the start and finish time to the aforementioned link. Few apps that offer public link for activities are: Strava, Runkeeper, Mapmyrun, Endomondo.
  8. Runners are requested to share their pre/during/post run pictures/selfies on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and tag @gracecancerfoundation (FB) @.....(Insta) @....(Twitter). We shall pick a few lucky runners from these posts and reward them with goodies.

A piece of advice from the event organizers:

  • We request you to kindly maintain social distancing during the run for the safety of yourself and your surroundings! We also request you to comply with all the orders of the government or local governing bodies
    • The runners are responsible for their own safety and of others during the run
  • This run has been planned to encourage fitness, in trying times such as these, to promote being healthy and happy. Enjoy the run and be comfortable!
