About The Event

Pattachitra is a traditional painting art of Odisha-based on Hindu mythology and especially inspired by Jagannathand Vaishnavacult. All colours used in the Paintings are natural and are done the old traditional way by Chitrakarasof Odisha. The name Pattachitra has evolved from the Sanskrit words patta, meaning canvas, and chitra, meaning picture. Pattachitra is thus a painting done on canvas, and is manifested by rich colourful application, creative motifs and designs, and portrayal of simple themes, mostly mythological.. Soaked in Puranic culture and classical romances, with vibrant colours and superb craftsmanship, the Pattachitra has become a distinct art form.

The workshop is designed for creative teaching and learning experience, incorporating “Pattachitra” techniques. The workshop aims to introduce Bangalore citizens to Pattachitra, a traditional art form that is vastly underrepresented in urban spaces. Through the workshop students will be provided a hands-on understanding of all aspects of Pattachitra like the background & history of the art, basic motifs, sketching, colours.
