Imagine a world where the oceans, mountains and rivers coexist in harmony and only a stone's throw away from each other (OK not exactly a stone's throw but pretty close by, you know what we mean) Think no further ladies and gentlemen cause your boys at Vagabond just got back from such a land, facing the troubles and hardships of chilling on the beaches, relaxing on boats, cruising through enchanting river channels, eating delicious local seafood and climbing mountains. We wanna go back already! This time all you cool people get to join us (shout out to cool people!). Vagabond presents Back-Pack-Go! Kerala: An escape to God’s own country. Who else is going coconuts like us?
th Sept: Day 1 people! Much excite! We meet up straight at Cochin airport at 10am. Hopefully you guys have told people back home that they’re not gonna hear too much from you for the next few days cause you are on an "important business trip" or "pilgrimage" or how about "vacation". We pick you guys up from there and head to our comfortable homestay in Alleppey. This day is for you to explore the town, try some food and do some shopping. We meet early evening to hit the beaches of Alleppey. After dinner, we have the evening at leisure. We spend the night in Alleppey.
th Sept: After breakfast we board the houseboats that will be taking us around the backwaters of Kerala; the quintessence of a complete Kerala experience. We will be spending the night on the houseboat. Dinner on the deck mateys! Enjoy the evening by just looking at the stars, listening to music or just relax reading a book as we cruise through the mysterious Alappuzha river.
th Sept: Rise and shine people it's day 3. We wake up super early today and head to Idukki district. Breakfast will be on the way. A place where the beaches and the sun give way to mountains, rain forests and clouds with the temperature dropping lower and the weather changing every 15 mins. We reach our destination, Santanpara, a small village in the south of Munnar which will be our base. We will have an orientation for the next day’s trek coupled with a small 'jungly' survival workshop. We then head for a small hike to the woods to spend some quality time by the river. We will be staying the night in a dormitory right in the middle of the forest. Dinner and campfire await us in the evening.
th Sept: Yes sir, today is a big day. We start our trek after an early breakfast. We will be guided by experts who will also be giving us tips on animal tracking and animal behaviour. The trek is of medium difficulty and the trail takes us through thick rain forests, grasslands and mountains. If we are lucky, we can spot animals and birds found only in this part of the country. Wild elephants, leopards, hornbill and barking deer are the few denizens of these forests. After reaching the summit we have lunch there and head back to our base village. After freshening up, we head for a secret spot in the hills for some tea and a campfire session. We have dinner at the base village and spend the night in our forest dormitories.
th Sept: After breakfast, we head straight to Varkala beach. Yea people, this is hippie beach paradise. We will be spending the next two nights here. We have sorted really comfortable homestays a 100 steps away from the beach. We have dinner together that night at the local cafes stuffing our faces with freshly-caught seafood. The evening is at leisure for you to rest up and take in the salty sea breeze.
th Sept: It’s time to hit the surf people! Today we explore Varkala fully and enjoy the cool breeze, palm trees and big waves after having a heavy breakfast. For the surfer dudes and chicks in you, Varkala has loads of stuff for you to try from surfing to other water sports. Also you can shop for some really cool stuff at the promenade and sample some local goods yourself. We meet in the evening to chill, have another exquisite meal and probably bring the place down with some live music.
th Sept: This is it guys, the last morning together. Sigh! We have breakfast together and check out from our accommodation. Post this, the trip ends. We will drop you to Kochi airport. Only book flights (from Kochi) and trains (from Ernakulam) which are scheduled post 3 PM.
