About The Event

Instructions:  While booking the Event registration fees, if you select any of the optional tickets (Jeep, Rent a cycle or Tshirt) that optional ticket is treated as second attendee and you will be asked to fill in all the details again. The word second attendee is confusing. It does not mean you are registering for a second person. The optional ticket is shown as second attendee. So on and so forth. This is because each ticket is treated as a separate entity and generates separate datasheet for us. This facility allows you to go back to booking site anytime again and book just the optional ticket that you had missed in the first place.

Hey folks,

This April, the Sinhagad Bike and Hike (BnH) activity will complete 5 years!

Encouraged by the success of our last year's 4th anniversary special event of Sinhagad bike and hike (https://www.facebook.com/BikeAndHikeSinhagad/videos/616449048508037/)

and to spread awareness to folks regarding its benefits, we have planned a special 5th anniversary special event of 'Sinhagad Bike and Hike' on the last Saturday of April i.e. the 29th April 2017!

Please note, it is a time bound event (NOT a race and certainly not for beginners)

Definition: 'Sinhagad bike and hike' basically means cycling ~18km from RajaRam Bridge (RRB) to Sinhagad base (Aatkarwadi), parking and locking the cycle at the base, hiking (by the trekking route) up, limbusarabat break, hiking down, tea break and finally cycling back home. The hike up is ~2.3km with ~515m of elevation gain. A regular BnH person will do this in 3h 40m (RRB to RRB) including all the breaks.

Background: Sinhagad Bike and Hike (SBnH) was started in April 2012 by Dr. Sandesh Doshi, Nikhil Shan and CA Prashant Tidke on every Thursday, assembling at 4.25am and departing sharp at 4.30am from Rajaram Bridge. Over the years many more folks joined and became regular Sinhagad Bike and Hikers and all have reaped the benefits of it. Those who know about SBnH will agree that it is a challenging event, which tests your physical as well as mental toughness. However, all the efforts invested in it, provide profitable returns, guaranteed! As Doc Sandesh Doshi says, it is a totally paisa vasool workout.

Why people can’t join on Thursdays? We have over the years realized that there are many folks who want to do join us on Thursdays but shy away from joining us possibly for the following reasons.
1) 4.30am is too early for them and they do not want to get up at 3.30am;
2) We are very punctual. We report at Rajaram bridge at 4.25am and after a selfie depart sharp at 4.30am, so if anyone is late even by a couple of minutes has to virtually do the entire workout solo as within minutes we are out of sight.
3) we are pretty fast. We generally cover 18km in 53-55mins. After all we do not wake up at 3.30am to do a leisurely ride. So people who are not as fast, lag behind which demoralizes them to come again.

This 5th anniversary event will be a Group activity: Therefore on this special 5th anniversary event, we want participation of everyone; those who have joined us at different times as well as those who wanted to join all these years but could not do for whatever reasons. This will be a group activity unlike the regular workout when nobody waits for no one and does his/her workout at his/her desired pace.

This event is not easy: Let us clarify one thing at the outset. This event is not for the newbie who have just started cycling or hiking. However anyone who is in regular touch with fitness activity such as cycling, running, trekking, swimming, badminton, tennis or any form of athletics, should not find it difficult to successfully complete this routine within the stipulated time period. This will not be a leisurely activity though. We will however help you push hard to complete the entire routine in a time that you would eventually be proud of.

Sponsors: We are extremely happy to have an overwhelming response from various sponsors who have agreed to provide free gifts to 300 participants on first come first serve basis. Those who register late may not be able to receive the gifts. The gifts are subject to cancellation or change as per financial constraint of the sponsor. We shall however do our level best to give as many gifts as possible to you, subject to we receiving them from the sponsors.

-- Chance to witness beautiful views of sunrise from one of Pune's most loved forts :)
-- Feel a sense of achievement you've never had before!

How do I get all of this? Simply follow these steps. Remember this is a time bound event.

Event Itinerary as under:

4.40am - Report at Rajaram Bridge (RRB) with your cycle, helmet, water bottle with Enerzal (or similar), backpack, cycle lock, front and rear lights, nutrition energy bar and some cash etc. Remember to eat something before you start. Not advisable to come on an empty stomach.

5.00am sharp - Flag off. In line with our thinking that flag off should be done by an eminent sports personality, this year we are happy to announce that 3 star athletes and Boston Qualifiers namely Dr. Muthukrishnan, Amod Bhate and Kavitha Reddy shall be doing a joint flag off. Hope we all get inspired by their phenomenal achievements and try to strive equally hard. Thank you Muthu, Amod and Kavitha for your kind gesture.

 Flag off celebrities above

Depart on your cycles to Sinhagad.

Road is good for roadbike except for a km area after Donje phata.
No water station enroute. Remember to bring your own water bottles.

6.10am - Arrive at Gurudatta hotel, Sinhagad base, Aatkarwadi. We are keeping 1h 10m for 18k distance against normal time of 55mins.

This is how we have planned parking and breakfast at Gurudatta hotel.

10 mins transition to refill water bottle, park & lock cycle at the back yard of Gurudatta hotel, put all the valuables on cycles in your backpack. For each cycle, a token will be issued (much in the same fashion as in the malls) and cycle will not be released without that token. Do not lose your lock key and do not un-necessarily lock someone else’s cycle with yours without his permission.

5mins to walk up 400m distance to the start point of hike up (which is the end of the cement road). Start you stopwatch here if you want to check your hike up time.

6.25am - Hike up start. Use Enerzal tetra pack in case of an emergency that we will give in the goodies bag. No water station en-route hiking section. Do not waste time in photos. Time will fly before you know.

7.20am - Arrive at top (We are keeping 55mins for hike up against normal 40mins) where we enter on the steps. As soon as you step on the steps you stop the stopwatch to know the time required for hike up. Do not go to car parking area. Limbusarabat fellow is on your right as you step on the steps.

5 mins Limbusarabat break. Give your coupon to Limbusarbatwala who will give you a glass of the same. (Additional glass at your own expenses). Quickly take photos time permitting.

7.25am - Hike down starts.

45mins for hike down. Those who opted for optional Jeep transport should go to the car parking area and use the coupon. Rahul (+91-97637 05026) will be our jeep contract person. His jeep number is MH12 BA 4791 with signboard on the rooftop “Sinhagadaache Raaje”.
Last jeep leaves at 7.45am with whosoever have arrived. It will not wait for others who have booked the jeep and are yet to arrive.

8.10am - Arrive at Gurudatta hotel at the base of Sinhagad where we have parked our cycles.
20mins for tea and breakfast.

Tea + Breakfast (Pohe or sabudana khichadi or whatever the vendor decides) will be issued against the coupons. If you reach in time, you get a chance to be in a group photo. The participation medals will be distributed at the time of breakfast. Those who successfully complete hike up and down in the stipulated time can call themselves as FINISHERS. There are no prizes for anyone since it is NOT a race but a time bound event to be done in a reasonable period of time.

8.30am - Return cycling starts. Remember, we can not delay return cycling start later than 8.30am because of the time constraints of back up vehicle & ambulance, traffic and hot season. So guys please adhere to the above mentioned schedule.
Those who are slower to meet this deadline, will have to cut short their hike and return from wherever they are. If you have already reached the top and have less time to hike down, you may have to come down by jeep (of course at an additional cost if you have not pre-booked the jeep transport) but be back at Gurudatta hotel by 8.10am, unless you do not mind doing the rest of the activity on your own without our support. The back up vehicle as well the ambulance will start back with us at 8.30am. Please ensure that you collect your cycle well in time from the parking area.
For all practical purposes the event ends after the breakfast.

9.30am - Arrive at RajaRamBridge (RRB). The event officially concludes here though participants are not expected to wait here. They may proceed to their home as and when they reach RRB. Those participants who do not find it convenient to come back to RRB need not come to RRB and proceed wherever they want to go after the breakfast.

 FAQ:

1. I'm not confident about doing BOTH, bike as well as hike together, but I'm still interested in the event, can I attend?
- Sure! In this edition, as long as you stick to the time schedule given above, you can choose to do the bike routine and whatever you can manage of the hike section, depending upon your fitness and endurance. We strongly recommend doing both however.

2. What time should I arrive and where?
- Report at RRB sharp at 4.40am (or earlier if you are coming in a car since you will need time to to park your car safely either on Sinhagad road or best parked on the DP road near Vitthal mandir on the other side of RRB) since the flag off is at 5am sharp. In case you get late, please carry on and try to catch up with rest of the gang en-route. Remember, in morning time flies fast and before you know you are 20mins late. While reaching RRB, dogs can trouble you. Best way is to travel in-group, speed up if necessary, and shout loudly at them and in worst-case stop dead if dogs do not give up chasing. In our last 5years of BnH not a single time dog has bitten anyone.

3. What should I carry with me?
- Helmet is mandatory. No participant will be allowed to participate without the helmet. Other items: front and rear lights, water bottle with Enerzal (or similar), small backpack, cycle lock, nutrition bar or energy bar and some cash etc. It is desirable to also carry cycle puncture repair kit, spare tube, air pump and tool kit since this is basically a self supported event although this time luckily we have a complimentary support back up vehicle from Giants which will help you should you land up in any cycle malfunction. Moreover with a crowd of 300 cyclists and just 1 back up vehicle, things may not work out properly if too many cycles develop malfunction. In worst case you should be prepared to put your cycle in a tempo and go home. Contact details of the driver will be given later.

4. What are the charges for the event?
3.9% + ST charges (service charge and gateway fees) are extra and will be borne by the participant on the total amount. The fees (registration, jeep, cycle rent, Tshirt) once paid are not refundable, although you can transfer them to your friend in case you cancel for some reason)

Please note that while you do online event registration, when you are buying an optional additional tickets such as T-shirt or Cycle rental or Jeep transport, you will be required to fill in all the details again since the software treats each registration as a separate registration and gives us a separate list of each tickets. Sorry for this additional trouble but it helps us find out exactly who has booked and what!

  • Event Registration fee: Rs. 200. This includes everything including lots of goodies. Obviously the optional jeep transport, rent a cycle and a event T-shirt is not included in this to keep the registration fees to bare minimum.
  • Optional Jeep transport: Rs. 70 (on sharing basis) in case you do not want to hike down. The jeep will start from top car parking at Sinhagad top and it will bring you to Gurudatta hotel at the base where breakfast will be served. The last jeep will depart at 7.45am with whosoever have arrived. So make sure you catch the jeep before it departs. If you miss the jeep, your jeep ticket goes waste. We can not refund nor we can accommodate in other jeeps with whom we have not tied up. You will have to pay to other jeeps which are usually available.
  • Optional Rent a Cycle: Rs. 350. For those who do not have a cycle and would like to rent a cycle. These charges are inclusive of helmet. This is provided and managed by Cymour, the cycling company. The cycles will be made available at Rajaram bridge and collected at the same place after the event. In case you do not want to cycle back from Sinhagad to RRB, you can hand over the cycle at Sinhagad itself provided you make your own arrangement to go home from Sinhagad.
  • Optional Event Commemorative T-shirt: Rs. 300.
  • (Sample colour, actual colour subject availability)
  •
  •       (Tentative design in 2 colour print, the white part will be that of the Tshirt)
  • Guys, this is a branded Dry fit T-shirt from PERFORMAX (Rs. 499/-mrp). This will probably be for the first time that a T-shirt’s specifications are mentioned in an event deion. Although this is an optional purchase, we strongly recommend that you should buy this T-shirt (or else regret) simply because you cannot get this T-shirt at this price. Even though we had planned for a very good quality non branded dry fit T-shirt, we never imagined that we would be able to lay our hands on such a high value branded product without increasing the cost to the participants (which was of paramount importance to us). We are able to give this offer only because of certain circumstances which we luckily stumbled upon on 24th March 2017. Disclaimer: In a rare scenario if we are not able to get these T-shirts for reasons beyond our control, we are still committed to give our participants a good quality T-shirt as originally planned.
  • The T-shirt sizes are XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL (from 34" to 44")

    (XS - 34", S-36", M - 38", L - 40", XL - 42", XXL - 44")
  •

The registration for T-shirts will close on 10th April so hurry if you would like to have a one. This T-shirt is not a jersey or cycling T-shirt. It is unisex normal T-shirt available in different sizes. The T-shirt cannot be exchanged in case you opt for a wrong size nor your order can be revised once placed. So make sure you order a correct size.

5.  What is included in the BASIC registration fee (Rs. 200)? This being a self supporting event, the registration fee includes overall event management, enroute vehicle back up support, drink at the top, goodies bag, participation medal, water & breakfast at the bottom and the event experience.

Gifts from sponsors are not part of the registration fees. These are complimentary from the sponsors. We shall try our level best to give you as many gifts as we can but in the event we are not able to get them from sponsors for some unforeseen reasons beyond our control, we can not pass them on to you.

Sponosors reserve their right to change type /quantity of the gift and may even cancel their gift or support altogether depending upon their financial constraints. Last year, all the sponsors gave what they promised and this year too we are positive that we will get full support from them. The gifts are given to participants on first come first basis and subject to availability. No arguments will be entertained in case someone does not receive any gift in his goodies bag.

 6. How much water should I carry?
- Usually 700cc water is sufficient for 18k cycling. There is no provision of en-route water station (either in cycling or hiking section) and should you require water/food en-route, you will have to buy on your own. You will be given packaged drinking water at Gurudatta hotel (for you to top-up your water bottles) and limbusharabat at Singhagad top . Other than these two locations you will have to buy at your cost.

7. Great! Now, how do I register?
- Simply, click on the tickets link of this event and arrive with your bike and necessary stuff at RRB at 4:40am or before, on the 29th April!

8. I grossly over-estimated myself. I am reaching late everywhere. Will I miss limbusarabat and tea + breakfast, if I miss the time deadlines mentioned in the itinerary? - No. Those who get late everywhere, will still get limbusarabat at the top and tea + breakfast etc. at the base (subject to the vendor's working hours), but they will be on their own for the rest of the workout unless they cut short their hike and join us for return leg of cycling with us at 8.30am.

9. What are the timings of back up vehicle and ambulance?
- Both will be available from 5am to 9.30am. If you waste unnecessary time in hiking or cycling section or if you are late for some reason, you have to manage on your own.

10. What is included in refreshments?
- One glass of Limbusarabat at the top; one cup of tea and 2 dishes (pohe or sabudana khichadi) breakfast at the base. Remember breakfast is at Gurudatta hotel at the base and not at the Sinhagad top.

Above: Last year's Limbusharabat and breakfast coupons for reference!

You will be given coupons for limbusharabat as well as breakfast against which you will be issued these thngs. The coupons are valid only on that day up to 11am. Unused coupons can not realized later nor the amount refunded.

11. What is the minimum age limit to participate?
- Minimum age for participation is 18 years unless they are accompanied by a guardian.
Any minor who participates without an accompanying adult does so at his own risk and organizers are not responsible if anything happens to them. Read the indemnity document carefully. We will email you the indemnity document (or give you a link from where you can download) in due course of time.

INDEMNITY FORM IS GIVEN IN THE TERMS AND CONDITION SECTION. It will be emailed to you in due course. For sample please refer to this Indemnity form of the last year's event:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByRsj4nswNfVeGNIVW5Eck1Oc1E/view

12. Do I have to sign an indemnity document? Yes, it is mandatory for you to sign the indemnity document before you take part in this event. There will not be any provision on the event day to sign the document. You can sign this document when you come to collect your goodies bag. If you send someone to collect goodies bag on your behalf, obviously you can not sign the document. In such a scenario you have to print the document, sign it and then send the scan by email to us on sandeshketaki@gmail.com.

13. What are the refund policies? The registration and other fees (Jeep, Rent a cycle, T-shirt) once paid are not refundable at any cost. We have however no objection if you want to transfer your registration to your friend in case you have to cancel your participation. Just inform us as to who is participating on your behalf. Even if you are not able to participate, we still suggest you to come and collect your goodies bag. It will be lot more worth than the basic registration fees that you paid.

14. Will I get my goodies bag if I cancel my participation? On the goodies bag collection day (Friday 28th April 2017) we shall wait up to 8pm for you to collect your goodies bag. If you inform us about your cancellation and request us to reserve your goodies bag well in advance, we will keep your goodies bag provided you collect it within 1 week after the event. If you neither turn up nor inform us till 8pm (on the goodies bag delivery day) your registration as well as your goodies bag stands cancelled and we are at liberty use them to accommodate spot registrations or do whatever we feel appropriate with the left over stuff. Read below for more details about goodies bag venue and collection date.

15. Can I just do hike if I don't have a cycle: No, cycling is compulsory to take part in this event. If you do not have a cycle, you can rent a cycle. We have tied up with Cymour for this. You have to pay additional Rs. 350/- (online). You will get cycle + Helmet at Rajaram bridge from where the event will be flagged off. Your cycle will be picked up at Rajaram bridge after completion of the event. In case you do not want to ride back and have made your own arrangement for your return journey, your rented cycle can also can be picked up at the base of Sinhagad (after you finish hike down) provided you select that option while booking.

So, tie those shoelaces tight, prepare those cycles right, and join us in this one of a kind paisa vasool workouts!

Disclaimers, Terms and conditions:

  1. Participants will be participating in this event at their own responsibility. Organizers will not be held responsible for any mishap, or damage, injury to them or the cycles. Before you join the event you will have to sign up an indemnity form the details of which will be given later.
  2. This event is not a race. So ride safely and look after your fellow participants.
  3. There are no prizes for those who finish first. However if you complete the routine in a very good time, we will be pleased to post your timings provided it is supported by a competent app like Strava, Mapmyride, endomondo, runstastic or similar.
  4. Cymour will be providing cycle rental services. In case you do not want to cycle back, they can pick your cycle from Sinhagad base provided you select that option prior during the event registration.
  5. If there is any dispute arising out of rental cycle arrangement due to cycle damage or other issues etc, the participant will have to address it directly to Cymour and pay the damages if necessary. The organizers shall not be responsible whatsoever even if the damage has been caused accidentally by some other participant. In such an event it is duty of the cycle owner to collec the damages from the person who has caused the damage, albeit unintentionally.
  6. There will be no finisher medal or certificate issued. The medal will just be a participation medal.
  7. Backup vehicle is primarily for the cycle breakdowns and not meant to ferry a tired participant and his cycle back home. The support vehicle supplied by Giants will have a technician with some commonly required spare parts (on saleable basis). He will do minor repairs such as chain malfunction or puncture and get the cycle going. If things cannot be managed, then the cycle will have to be kept in the back up vehicle. The vehicle can house up to 5 cycles with their riders. In case anyone wants to use the back up vehicle facility simply because he is tired to ride back, may do so subject to room available and in the event a genuine guy requires to use the vehicle then the tired guy with good cycle has to get down and ride back home.
  8. Ambulance backup is to take care of any health issue during the event such as fall or injury or any cardiac issue. The injured person will be taken to Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital. Please do not participate in this event if you are not used to long duration endurance rides. Do not use this event to do your stress test. There are lots of cyclists in this event so make sure that you do not entangle with other cyclists.
  9. Remember this event is basically a self-supported event. Fortunately we have luxury of both Ambulance and vehicle backup services. These are being provided complimentary from the sponsors on "best efforts basis". Although organizers will make every effort to help you in case of an emergency, organizers cannot be held responsible for any lacunae in services. Do not fight or argue with the sponsors or the organizers on trivial issues. We want to do this event in a positive manner and in good spirits. Let us not spoil it on small issues. Should there be any dispute, the decision of the ORGANIZERS will be final and binding on the participant.
  10. It is the responsibility of the participants to ensure that they are reasonably fit to undertake such a hardcore event.
  11. This event is done to promote awareness of fitness by means of this combined Sinhagad Bike and Hike routine. Organizers will not be held responsible for any health issues (including loss of life, partial or full disability) arising out of their participation.
  12. Parking of the cycles is on "park at your own risk" basis. Every effort will be made to safeguard the cycles. However should there be any theft or damage to cycles whatsoever, the organizers will not be held responsible. Any person who does not agree to this should not participate in this event.
  13. This is the second edition. We now know how difficult it is to manage such a big crowd. We are taking every precaution and effort to ensure that this event goes smoothly and becomes a huge success. However if they’re any mistakes, goof ups or lack of services, we request you to kindly and graciously forgive us. Moreover with tiny fee of Rs. 200, we request participants not to have undue expectations. If one has realistic expectations, we are sure this event will become a mega hit.
  14. Goodies bag collection will be at Yash eye clinic and laser centre on 28th April 2016, Friday between 11am and 8pm.

Terms & Conditions

5th anniversary special event of Sinhagad bike and hike. (Terms and conditions, Jeep transportation, Do's and Don'ts and Indemnity form)

Dear Friends,

To avoid un-necessary hassles, misunderstandings and disputes, following rules and regulations are laid down so that the event ends in good spirit and on a positive note.

TERMS ADN CONDITIONS:

  1. Remember this event is primarily a self-supported event although we are lucky to have support of so many sponsors. Though you will be provided limbusharabat at the top of Sinhagad and tea + breakfast after hiking down to Gurudatta hotel, for the rest of the event, participants are expected to make their own hydration arrangements.
  2. Packaged drinking water will be provided at Gurudatta hotel from where you can refill your bottles before beginning your hike.
  3. All participants must sign an indemnity form at the time of goodies bag collection. If they cannot come personally, they should take a printout, sign the same and send it through their representative for the goodies bag collection. Without this participant will not be allowed to participate in the event.
  4. Helmets, front headlight and rear lights/blinkers are compulsory for all cycles. Cyclists without helmets will not be allowed to participate. We will be riding in dark until 5.50am and we do not want accidents only because somebody did not see something because of poor light.
  5. Anyone who is not wearing the helmet or not having proper light shall be riding in the event at his own risk and the organizers are not responsible if something happens to them.
  6. Report in time to the event venue – 29th April at 4:40am. Flag off will happen sharp at 5am.
  7. All participants are expected to consult their physician and undergo complete medical examination to assess their suitability to participate in the event.
  8. Assume all risks associated with participating in this event including, but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat or humidity, traffic and the condition of the road, arson or terrorist threats and all other risks associated with a public event.
  9. Abide by the cut-off times. This is not a race but still it is a time bound event. You must do this entire Hike and bike routine from RRB to RRB in 4hr 30mins including all the breaks. One must complete RRB to Aatkarwadi cycling in 70mins.... cycles parking 10mins…. Walk 400m to start of hike up point in 5mins.... hike up in 55mins.... limbusarabat break in 5mins.... hike down (or jeep down) in 45mins.... breakfast in 20mins...return cycling back to RRB in 60mins. Please refer to the itinerary in the event description.
  10. Accordingly volunteers will wait for 20 more mins before they are released from their assigned duties and spots.
  11. Those participants who find it difficult to meet the timing cutoffs at every point, we would recommend that they should cut short their hike part and turnaround at 7.45am irrespective of where they are so as to be able to be back at the breakfast area by 8.10am.
  12. Those who have booked an optional Jeep option must note that this Rs.70 amount that is collected per person is on 10 people traveling together basis. Jeep/jeeps (depending upon number of tickets) will be ready at 7.15am at the car parking area at the top. They will leave whenever seats get full. The last Jeep is instructed to collect the remaining people and leave at 7.45am. However this Jeep will wait max up to 8am (or more subject to approval from fellow participants) to collect as many participants as possible (those who have booked jeep option. Then the Jeep will leave with whatever people in it. Those who miss this jeep cut off time have to pay on their own to other jeeps, which will be readily available there, being Saturday. The organizers will not refund Rs. 70 for unused coupons due to missing of the time cutoff. Those who are not sure to meet the Jeep time cut off should start from RRB a little before scheduled flag off of 5am. Do this however only if you have powerful enough light and that too at your own risk.
  13. Those who want to do the entire bike and hike routine at a pace slower than the stipulated timings may do so but at their risk and on their own. They would still get limbusharabat and breakfast on producing the respective coupons, subject to the respective vendors working hours. These coupons are valid only for the event day up to 11am or vendors working hours whichever is lesser.
  14. To encourage the participants, we shall give participation medal even if they do not fully complete the entire bike and hike workout. The participation medal will be given at the breakfast area. However those who complete the bike and hike routine within the stipulated time stand to get the medal at the hands of celebrity participants. Those who arrive so late that even volunteers have left, will also get the medal. All they have to do, is ask Mr. Jedhe of Gurudatta hotel to hand over the medals against producing the breakfast coupon.
  15. We do not have any provision for giving any certificate.
  16. Understand that the event goes through the roads in the city that may have vehicular traffic especially on the return journey. Though, our volunteers will take care of managing the traffic, you are requested to watch and be careful of vehicular traffic. We request total co-operation from participants in this regards.
  17. Although our event ends officially at Rajaram bridge, for all practical purposes it ends after the breakfast. We shall start the return cycling leg from the Gurudatta hotel sharp at 8.30am. The vehicle backup as well as the ambulance support will also start at the same time. Both these support systems will be available up to 9.30am only. These support systems are given complimentary from Giants and DMH respectively and they will handle any grievance or dispute as per their policy.

If you find any discrepancy in the description, please feel free to bring to my notice (M-9822031839. Email: sandeshketaki@gmail.com) and it will be immediately corrected or rectified.

JEEP TRANSPORTATION

What is jeep transportation?

  1. Jeep transport is from Sinhagad top (car parking area) to Sinhagad base, Hotel Gurudatta at Aatkarwadi where breakfast will be served.
  2. It is on sharing basis with 10 people in one jeep only for those who have prebooked this facility.
  3. Last time we had to book 3 jeeps. This time we do not know how many will opt for this option but we have provision to arrange for enough number of jeeps.
  4. This is not part of basic registration fee. It is an optional service provided by us at bare minimum cost to the participants.
  5. To avail the jeep transport you have to select ‘jeep transport’ option and pay Rs. 70/- at the time of online event registration.
  6. In case you have missed this during the initial online event registration or realize that you need that option, you can still book later by revisiting the event registration link and pay for that option.

What could be the reasons to opt for jeep transport?

  1. To safeguard knees during hike down.
  2. Too tired to hike down.
  3. Trailing behind schedule given in the event itinerary.

As organizer of this event, we are unable to know the exact purpose of your booking.

Jeep transportation guidelines.  Please study them well and take action accordingly.

  1. Each participant (who has opted and paid for the jeep transport) will be given a ‘Jeep transport coupon’ in his goodies bag. Make sure it is in the goodies bag while taking the delivery.
  2. Mr. Rahul is our Jeep contract person who owns a jeep bearing No. MH12-BA 4791. His telephone number is +91-9763705026. You can also identify his jeep from a sign board on the roof top which says "Sinhagadche Raje" (सिंहगडाचे राजे).
  3. Rahul, in addition to his jeep, has been instructed to hire additional jeep/s depending upon total bookings. Each jeep will ferry 10 passengers on sharing basis.
  4. As soon as the participant finishes his Limbusharabat drink, he has to rush to the car park area without wasting his time. Keep an eye on your watch.
  5. The participant has to hand over the Jeep Transport coupon to Mr. Rahul.
  6. Mr. Rahul will direct the participant to the concerned jeep.
  7. The jeep/s will be ready at the Sinhagad top (car parking area) at 7am.
  8. After 10 participants are accommodated, first jeep will leave for the base say at 7.15am.
  9. Assuming we have enough bookings, the second jeep will take another 10 passengers and is expected to leave at around 7.30am or as soon as the seats are full. So on and so forth.
  10. The last jeep will accommodate the remaining participants and leave at 7.45am. In case there are people yet to arrive, whether to wait or how long to wait, will be subject to approval from fellow participants who have made it in time. The last jeep will leave for the base of Sinhagad with whatever participants in it.
  11. Those who miss the 7.45am cut off will be lucky to get the jeep if the jeep decides to wait for remaining people. It would not be fair to those people who have made it in time, to wait for late comers after a certain time.
  12. In other words, if you cannot make to the parking area on or before 7.45am, you are probably going to miss your jeep transport.
  13. After 8am, none of the registered jeeps will be available. Of course other jeeps are going to be there since it is a Saturday.
  14. Participants who miss the registered jeep transport (for whatever reasons) and still want to come down by jeep, can still do so by using other jeeps available there but at their own cost.
  15. Participants deciding at last minute that they would need a jeep transport will not be accommodated in our prebooked jeeps even if there is a room available. This decision has been taken because the other jeep operators had objected to this last year since this takes away their business. Hope you understand this issue.
  16. All jeep registrations, once paid, are NON-refundable.
  17. Our volunteers of course will be there to guide you and help you. They will be released from their assigned duty at 8.15am.
  18. Since mobile network is an issue at Sinhagad, we will not be calling any participant as to where he is or how long he is going to take to reach to the car parking area.
  19. Those getting late in the hike up section must take a decision at 7.45am whether to continue hiking up at the risk of missing the jeep timing cut off or to turn around and start hike down.
  20. If you think you may miss any of the above jeep cut-off timings, you may choose to start from RRB 15-20minutes before the official flag off time of 5a.m. However please do so only if you have very good front light and of course at your own risk.

Should you require any clarification on this please feel free to communicate with me. We would love that all those who booked for jeep transport, are able to make it to the top in time and are ferried down to the base of Sinhagad.

DO'S AND DON'TS:-

DO’s:

  1. Do collect your goodies bag a day before. Bring all the necessary items with you that you may require.
  2. Do sign an indemnity form without which you will not be allowed to participate.
  3. DO make sure the previous night that you have everything ready that is required for the event.
  4. Do attach the participants’ identity badge/ bib to your cycling jersey or T-shirt (somewhere where it is easily visible by our volunteers). We cannot otherwise identify who is our participant or not. Volunteers will be wearing a similar badge/bib with ‘Volunteer’ written on it.
  5. Do keep a check list of items that you require such as cycling suit, gloves, helmet, water bottle filled with water + electrolytes, lights charged, blinkers tested, tire pressures checked, sundry cash kept in a plastic pouch, refreshment  (and jeep if applicable) coupons, spare tube, puncture kit, tool kit etc.
  6. Do wake up at least 1 hour before reporting time. Time flies esp. in the morning and before you know you will be late at least by 20mins. You would not want to miss a mass flag off and an energetic atmosphere of 200 cyclists. In case you do miss the flag off, you have to try and catch up the guys who have gone ahead.
  7. Do eat something before coming. A banana or a chocolate bar would do. Coming on an empty stomach is not advisable.
  8. Do wear a Helmet, get good front light (cycle or headband) and rear lights for your cycles. If your light is not powerful you may cycle along with someone who has a better light. It is worth buying a good quality LED front light with Li-Ion rechargeable battery if you plan to do this activity on a regular basis. A fall or an accident (and a subsequent hospital visit) just because you did not see a something in time will probably cost you many times more a cost of good front light.
  9. Do reach the venue on time i.e. between 4.30am and 4:40am. If you are planning to come by car, ensure you arrive early enough so as to find appropriate parking space on Sinhagad road or on DP road near Vitthal mandir on the other side of Rajaram Bridge.
  10. Do remember to fill your cycle water bottle and bring it along, as there is no provision for en route water station either while going or while coming.
  11. When you drink water from the water bottle while riding, remember that it could be a bit tricky with so many people riding together. You could accidentally drop your bottle or could lose your balance or could get your cycle entangled with a fellow cyclist and both may fall. Do not make any unforced errors.
  12. Do make sure that you know the road to Sinhagad. It is presumed that everyone who has registered knows where is Donje phata, where is Sinhagad ghat road (Golewadi) and where is Sinhagad Paytha (base) at Aatkarwadi. For an uninformed participant, we would like to state that you have to leave the main tar road and go straight at Donje phata when you see the roadside board stating Panshet 19Km to the right / Sinagad 10Km straight / Donje 0Km. Our volunteers will be there to guide you towards Sinhagad. Golewadi is the area where Sinhagad ghat road goes up on our left. Aatkarwadi is a few km ahead which is at the base of Sinhagad and the road for our hike.
  13. For those who are from outside Pune, here is the Google map link: From Rajaram Bridge / chowk to Hotel Gurudatta, Aatkarwadi.
  14. Do study this well and know where is Donje phata where you have to leave the main road and go straight to Sinhagad.
  15. https://goo.gl/maps/Tpj76WADc632
  16. Do follow traffic rules while cycling. You cannot suddenly change your lane without giving a warning to your fellow cyclists. If you see a pothole at the last minute, before you dodge to avoid the same, make sure there is no one beside you and only then you change the lane or else you go through that pothole. Expect a lot of vehicular traffic on your way back home.
  17. Do keep one puncture kit between you and your friend. That way you can divide the weight during the hike leg and still be prepared to handle any puncture. Do keep some money handy. Giants back up vehicle will have spares on saleable basis and they will make every effort to get your cycle going. Understand that for 200+ participants it could be difficult for a single vehicle to attend to many breakdowns and it is advisable to be self sufficient should your cycle suffer some trouble.
  18. Keep Enerzal or similar energy drink handy for an emergency.
  19. Do carry an energy bar, which you will possibly require after 18k cycling when you reach Sinhagad base.
  20. Do refill your water bottle after the cycle leg at the Gurudatta hotel. This would normally be sufficient for the hike up part. There is no provision of water station on hiking route. Of course you can always buy water from many vendors en route, should you fall short on water.
  21. There is nothing to get lost on the hiking route. Gurudatta Hotel to Limbusarabat spot via trek route (Hiking section – 2.4Km)
  22. https://goo.gl/maps/asNoLJvek6n
  23. Do carry your refreshment coupons. After hike up you will get one glass of limbusarabat against one coupon, (additional at your cost). Breakfast is after hike down (or jeep down for those who booked that transport) at the Gurudatta hotel. And do not worry; Jeeps will drop you at the Gurudatta hotel and not at the base of the ghat at Golewadi. You will get Tea + heavy yet limited breakfast. Menu is fixed. Drinking water that is served is bore-well water (which we have been drinking all these years) however packaged drinking water is available at your cost.
  24. If you do not want to wear your helmet during the hike leg, make sure that it is included in the cycle lock while parking. That way you won’t have to carry them in your bag! We recommend that do not keep valuables or expensive cycling accessories on the cycles. Remove them and put in your backpack while hiking up. We cannot take responsibility for any theft or loss of valuables although the parking area is well secure and entirely be managed by Giants people. There is no facility for the baggage counter however.
  25. Do keep a track of time and target to complete each leg of the event within the timing deadlines. Else you will have to ride back home in scorching sun unless you make an alternative arrangement to take you home with your cycle.
  26. Although this is not a race, do record your timings for each leg of cycling as well as hiking. We will be most happy to publish your timings if they are supported by proper proof such as strava, Endomondo, Mapmyride, Garmin or similar. Record you cycling time from RRB to Aatkarwadi (Gurudatta Hotel) in minutes. For hiking timing we have finalized the hike start point as the point where the cement road ends and actual hike begins. Start your stopwatch as you step on the hike up start and stop when you reach the end point of hike, which is when you reach the steps at the limbusarabat area. Remember, while climbing up Sinhagad, there is nothing like moving time. Therefore instead of using an app, which give you moving time, we recommend you to use just simple stopwatch. It is independent of GPS and gives most accurate time.
  27. Do ensure you finish the hike down leg and reach Gurudatta hotel by 8:10am. If you find it difficult to finish timing cut offs we recommend you cut short your hike and turnaround wherever you are at 7:45am to ensure you reach Gurudatta hotel in time for breakfast.
  28. Do cooperate with the volunteers’ en-route. Since we will have over 200 participants it will be chaos unless we listen to their instructions and give them support.
  29. Do help your fellow participant in case of any problems with his cycle or his health. Alert volunteers/ambulance in case of any emergencies.
  30. Do smile for the camera! J There will be photographers covering both the cycle and trek route waiting to click your pics! One quick selfie on the hike up or down section is alright but do not spend lot of time in photos. Remember this is not a picnic and the time restrictions that we have laid down are bit tight.
  31. In case you want your friend or spouse to pick you up after the hike up, from the top car parking area, this is how that person should reach from Rajaram Chowk (RRB) to Sinhagad top car park via ghat road (24.1Km) https://goo.gl/maps/fV9QAPQZcNA2

 DON’T’s:

  1. Do NOT race. The event is a time bound event but NOT a competition. Your only competition is with yourself. There are no prizes.
  2. Do NOT continue if you start feeling uncomfortable of uneasy at any point.
  3. Do NOT park your cycles in haphazard manner at Gurudatta hotel. We are specially erecting a bamboo structure for an organized way system seen in duathlon or triathlon for quick and safe parking. There will be 6 rows of horizontally placed bamboos at 45-48 inches from the ground. All you have to do is lift the cycle from rear and hang by the seat.
  4. Do NOT leave any valuables/ or expensive accessories on your cycles at the parking. The organizers will not be held responsible for any loss of belongings.
  5. Do NOT spend too much time after reaching the top of trek route. We have given only 5 mins for the limbusarabat drink. The event does not end there. Also, there is very little space available on top so it is recommended to have your refreshment and leave immediately. Our volunteers will facilitate speedy process in this area.
  6. Do NOT take short cuts while hiking up or down. If you get lost, we cannot trace you. Taking short cuts while hiking down is not advisable unless you are an expert hiker. One accidental fall will spoil your mood and our mood. Besides there is no medical support en-route hike section. So please do not fall. Pay attention to where you are laying your feet or else it is too easy to fall on face.
  7. Do NOT depend on the backup vehicle to support you throughout the leg. Backup will be provided only for cycle failure/breakdown. Please carry your own puncture kits and spare tube.
  8. Do not forget to refill your water bottles at Gurudatta hotel before you start your return journey.

With regards,

Do call me or email me if you find any descripancy in the information or if you have any doubts!
