OVERVIEW

Start your journey in Shillong the capital city of Meghalaya, home to the Khasis, set amongst pine-covered hills and adorned by numerous waterfalls. Cool climate and beautiful natural setting lends this city,a very special charm. It is said that the rolling hills around the town reminded the European settlers of Scotland. Hence, Shillong is known as "Scotland of the East". We travel furthur South West to Cherrapunji, located in the Khasi hills and facing the palins of Bangladesh. With and average rainfall of 11,777 millimeters every year, it is the second wettest place in the world next to nearby Mawsynram. Such heavy rainfall gives birth to numerous waterfalls, the most spectacular and highest of which is the Nohkalikai falls. At 1100 feet the Nohkalikai falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in the world and ranks high in the 100 best waterfalls in the world. The other star attraction of the area is the living root bridges, made over generations by intertwining the roots of a Ficus tree. From Cherrapunji we take the road less travelled to the tiny village of Mawlynnong on the Indo Bangla borderwhich has earned the distinction of being the cleanest village in Asia.

From Mawlynong we drive to Kaziranga National Park. Kaziranga National Park is located in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam. Kaziranga is a vast expanse of tall elephant grass, marshland, and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests, crisscrossed by four major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, and the park includes numerous small bodies of water. A World Heritage Site, the park hosts two-thirds of the world's Great One-horned Rhinoceroses.Kaziranga boasts the highest density of tigers among protected areas in the world. The park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer and is also recognized as an important Bird Area by Birdlife International for conservation of avifaunal species. Compared to other protected areas in India, Kaziranga has achieved notable success in wildlife conservation.

Majuli is the largest fresh Water mid-river deltaic island in the world. It is situated in the upper reaches of the river Brahmaputra in Assam. The island is sorrounded by the Brahmaputra river in the south and the Kherkutia Xuti, an anabranch of the Brahmaputra, joined by the Subansiri River in the north. This landmass, with a population of 1.6 Lakhs, majority being tribals, has a very rich heritage and has been the abode of Assamese Vashnavite culture with tremendous option for spiritual and Eco-tourism. The island is a bio-diversity hotspot and has rich ecology with rare breeds of flora and fauna.otable success in wildlife conservation.
