About The Event

Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) is a step-by-step approach for identifying all possible failures in a design, a manufacturing or assembly process, or a product or service. The purpose of the FMEA is to take actions to eliminate or reduce failures, starting with the highest-priority ones. A successful FMEA activity helps to identify potential failure modes based on experience with similar products and processes - or based on common physics of failure logic. It is widely used in development and manufacturing industries in various phases of the product life cycle.

Gain a working knowledge of the FMEA tool as it is applied to the manufacturing or service processes of an organization. This course demonstrates the basics of creating a Process FMEA – a critical step in assessing the risk to the business as well as the manufacturing process of the product or service.

Address the potential failures within the process flow of the manufacturing or service. Conducted early in the process development cycle, the FMEA tool is used to identify risks and then adjust the manufacturing or service process to reduce the identified risks and improve quality.

Outline

  • Introduction
  • Need of PFMEA
  • When PFMEA is conducted? – Exact stage in Product Realization
  • Who are members of tem developing PFMEA? – Necessary & optional functions and members
  • How PFMEA is developed? – General procedure.
  • PFMEA format – detailed explanation of all headings
  • Failure, effect of failure, cause of failure, detection (D), occurrence (O), severity (S), Risk priority number (RPN), detection controls, preventive controls etc.
  • Identifying actions for high RPN failures - Criticality identification & handling.
  • Post PFMEA: Control Plan, Work procedure, revisiting of PFMEA.
  • Rejection or failure problems and PFMEA
  • Things Go Wrong in PFMEA
  • Design Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (DFMEA): Introduction and brief explanation of DFMEA

Question & answer session.

Training Methodology

  • Case studies
  • Examples
  • Scenarios

Benefits

  • Develop a systematic approach in understanding the potential problems, in process and planning stage itself, thereby avoiding costly and time consuming post – error corrective actions.
  • Understanding the FMEA methodology and give background information on how to organize FMEA groups and fosters a team-work culture of cross functional nature in developmental activities which is very essential for enhancing the reliability of complex designs and process.
  • Cost savings
  • Continual improvement

Who can attend this program?

This workshop will benefit practicing engineers and technical personnel involved in the functions of Design and Development, Process Planning, Product Engineering, Application engineering, Quality Assurance, R&D, Manufacturing, Servicing etc. Also, personal who works in , Tool rooms, Defence and Railway establishments, General Engineering and other Capital goods manufacturing industries. In order that the participation is effective and beneficial, it is recommended that participating companies depute a multi-disciplinary team of 2 or 3 people from the above functions.

IITD Sr. Expert Faculty

Highly experienced faculty from Indian Institute of Training & Development will conduct this training. The training sessions will provide participants an opportunity to discuss specific problems with the expert faculty.
