About The Event

Ageing is the progressive and generalized impairment of functions resulting in the loss of adaptive response to stress and in increasing the risk of age-related diseases. "Geriatrics" is a specialized branch of medicine that caters to the complex needs of the elderly population. Since, all people become old at a certain point; geriatric doctors require an interdisciplinary approach and are required to work with other physicians, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and family members. Only through this comprehensive approach can geriatric doctors care for patients with multiple needs.

With the immense success of the conferences held in 2012 as well as 2013, the organizers are extremely confident about the success of this conference. The organizers have been inundated with compliments and requests for the continuation of these conferences. There also have been immense requests to make it an annual program so that the rich tradition of knowledge sharing continues.

Especially in a country like India, a conference such as this is a milestone because India is greying at a very rapid pace. Eldercare coordination is becoming an urgent need. The overall effect of these alterations is an increase in the probability dying, which is evident from the rise in age-specific death rates in the population. India is in a phase of demographic transition. As per the 1991 census, the population of the elderly in India was 57 million as compared with 20 million in 1951. There has been a sharp increase in the number of elderly persons between 1991 and 2001 and it has been projected that by the year 2050, the number of elderly people would rise to about 324 million. India has thus acquired the label of "an ageing nation" with 7.7% of its population being more than 60 years old. The increase of elder population is due to better medical facilities, better hygienic conditions, and better nutrition. But still lacks of adequate facilities for care of segment of population. Majority of this population will require long-term care in hospitals at some point in their lives. Several medical institutions and colleges have just started departments / sections of Geriatrics in their institutions.

The conference will help integrate the knowledge of specialists regarding ageing-associated diseases with the knowledge of geriatricians regarding the course of age related diseases and the treatment of the same. The conference would provide a forum for doctors and people related to medical field to brainstorm on various facets of old age related disease.

The conference would help provide advice and tips on making ageing process as harmless as possible. It would also help distinguish between changes directly connected with normal ageing and changes induced by diseases, including their untypical manifestation. The conference would provide attendees the perfect opportunity to ask questions and find answers on how to treat elderly patients without making them suffer. It will give like-minded professionals the opportunity to meet, discuss, and draw conclusions on various aspects and impacts of ageing.

The conference hopes to reach this wide cross-section of the population and it hope to create an environment conducive to talk about the care for the elderly population. Participating in this seminar will not only benefit you to witness the developments in modern science and technology, but also to understand the ethics, law and other social justice available under the law for the elderly population.

Mission: The mission of this conference is to provide a forum for a multidisciplinary team of investigators in geriatrics to identify areas of highest research priority, and develop research approaches to improve clinical care for older adults.

Concept: The idea behind this conference is to integrate the knowledge of specialists regarding ageing-associated diseases with the knowledge of geriatricians regarding the course of age related diseases and the treatment of the same. Financial: The financial aspects of ageing will also be discussed by the panellists to understand the economic situation of the geriatric and the impact of the geriatric population on the nation’s economy. Also, will be discussed the fact on how to make the senior citizen’s life much simpler financially, so that the nation will not find them an economic burden.

Social: Aspects of social norms regarding the geriatric population will also be discussed in detail in the conference to better understand the changing social norms in the society in terms of geriatric population.

Information Technology: With the growing changes in technology and the infiltration of IT into normal lives has prompted the organizers to include a topic on IT and its influence on the geriatric population. Also, the panellists will discuss how IT can bring about a radical change in the way the modern world perceives the geriatric population. After all, networking and information is tending to become the back bone of every discussion.

International Scenario: The topics of discussion will not restrict to India itself. With the creation of Indo- British Geriatric Council following the 2nd Conference, we want to bring in a global outlook to the issue of geriatrics. We will also be looking atchanging scenarios for senior citizens across the globe.
