About The Event

The Great Malnad Challenge, or GMC for short, Is a long distance bicycle ride that exclusively traverses the Western ghats within the state of Karnataka. The part of the Western ghats in the Karnataka region is referred to as MALNAD, which means the Land of Mountains.

First organized in 2010 by the Tandem Trails team, it has been a huge draw ever since, among the corporate community of Bangalore. GMC is an annual bicycle trek and it is the longest bicycle trail in Karnataka. The original trail was over 850 kms and takes about 9-days to cover that distance. The trails passes through some of the most scenic and breathtakingly beautiful regions of Malnad. The mesmerizing meadows of Kemmangundi and Baba Budangiri; the misty maze of Agumbe and Kudremukh; the thick jungles of Muthodi and Bhadra… GMC offers cycling enthusiasts the best possible option for sight-seeing the diversity of the Karnataka’s geography.

Typically, The Great Malnad Challenge starts from MADIKERI, Coorg and ends at JOG FALLS, Shimoga. En route, the trails passes through Kukke Subramanya, Sakleshpur, Kemmangundi, Baba Budangiri, Muththodi, Kalasha, Kudremukha, Agumbe, Marwanthe, Nittur, etc…

The post-monsoon scheduling of the event makes the trail even more enthralling and it is by far one of the best long-distance cycling ride that can be enjoyed by all cycling enthusiasts, new and experienced!
