About The Event

Rashid Khan, Sivamani, Richa Sharma, Purbayan Chatterjee & Subhankar Banerjee on a world music presentation

Ustad Rashid Khan

"an assurance for the future of Indian vocal music" "There is now at least one person in sight who is an assurance for the future of Indian vocal music", said Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, voicing a few years ago, the concern of connoisseurs of Hindustani vocal music about whether its tradition of excellence would continue.

It indeed has - with Ustad Rashid Khan, the young maestro, one of the leading torch-bearers.

Sivamani

Siva - the creator!.... Creates magic with just about anything from his conventional cymbals to the timbale to the batajon to the vastly unconventional shells and conches and "Biryani Kadai".

Siva's style is deceptive for the uninitiated. Deeply profound and mysterious at one moment; tantalizing and exuberant at the next. However, augmenting the brute power, are his rhythmic style and harmony, which surrounds the discerning listener with warmth, joy and bliss.

Richa Sharma

Richa Sharma is an Indian film playback singer as well a devotional singer. In 2006, she sang Bollywood's longest track, the bidaai song, in film Baabul (2006).

Purbayan Chatterjee

Purbayan Chatterjee is an Indian sitar player and composer who lives in Kolkata, India. He is noted for amalgamating traditional Indian classical music with contemporary world music genres.

Subhankar Banerjee

Subhankar Banerjee started his career at a tender age of five. Music is in his veins reigning all over his body and creating magical tunes through a "tabla". The prodigy under the vigilant eyes of Pt. Swapan Shiva got his "Taalim". Days passed and the flower bloomed beautifully and stood high in the Springs.
