Narendra Sharma Festival of Dance (NSFD)

After the demise of Narendra Sharma, renowned choreographer and founder director of Bhoomika in January 2008, a decision was taken by members of the organization to hold an annual festival of choreography in New Delhi as a tribute to his memory. On 85th birth anniversary of Shri Sharma, a 2-day festival was held at Habitat Center. A 3-day IInd Narendra Sharma Festival of Dance 2011 (NSFD) was held from 11-13 March 2011 and another 4-day IIIrd NSFD was organized from February 14-17, 2012 at Sri Ram Centre.

All festivals received critical appreciation with packed houses. As a positive build up, Bhoomika is now organizing a fourth festival on October 16, 17, 18, 2013 at Sri Ram Centre, New Delhi.

Emphasis of this festival will be on individual languages of choreographers and soloists. One of the core principles of contemporary dance is for dancers to look into their own individual languages and express ideas from their immediate life. As soloists, dancers look into their individual self to draw out ideas, telling stories and expressing forms that are unique to them.

Soloists also graduate as group leaders, and as choreographers begin to translate their languages on their dancers. In the process their personal careers get sidelined due to exigencies of running dance companies. This festival will offer an opportunity to group leaders to re-invent their careers as powerful soloists, as well as showcase independent soloists who have done independent work.
