A Celebration of Icelandic Literature - Multimedia Exposition.
On the occasion of Iceland being this year's Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan in cooperation with the Embassy of Iceland in India and the German Book Office New Delhi will host a series of events to provide an insight into the vivid literary and cultural scene of the Atlantic state.
The Frankfurt Book Fair, is the world's largest Book Fair and most important marketplace for books, media, rights and licences worldwide. Year after year, the appearance of a 'Guest of Honour' gives a changing face to this major cultural event. For the Guest of Honour, this appearance has a dual significance. Apart from the enormous attention paid to its literature and culture as introduced in countless events, the Guest of Honour's book industry also benefits from the presentation on the international platform of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Under the title 'Fabulous Iceland', the guest country will present its culture to a national and international audience and provide insights into its literary past and present. Nearly 200 titles of Icelandic fiction and non-fiction are going to be published in Germany and more than 35 Icelandic authors are expected to be in Frankfurt, including Andri Snaer Magnason, Guorun Eva Minervudottir, Hallgrimur Helgason, Jon Kalman Stefánsson, Kristin Steinsdottir and Sjon, along with famous crime writers Arnaldur Indrioason and Yrsa Sigurðardottir and this year's winner of the Nordic literature prize Gyroir Eliasson.
