Walkathon - SURAKSHIT KHADYA ABHIYANTM
To Strengthen Nationwide Action on Safe and Hygienic Food for All

Aligned to the countrywde mission “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” for ensuring commitment to Cleanliness and Jago Grahak Jago, a Consumer Welfare movement, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), FACE in association with National Industry Partner Cargill India and other multi-stakeholder bodies Consumer Body VOICE, National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) will be organizing a Safe Food Walkathon on Sunday, 13th March 2016, as a part of the Food Safety advocacy programs of Surakshit Khadya AbhiyanTM. The initiative is a Pan India Food Safety Awareness & Capacity Building Campaign to strengthen nationwide action on Safe Food for All.
Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Hon’ble Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution launched the CII Surakshit Khadya AbhiyanTM on 21 July 2015 at Krishi Bhavan.
Subsequent to the launch of Surakshit Khadya AbhiyanTM, CII has started a series of “Safe Food for All” Walkathons and food safety programs with special sessions aimed at raising Consumer awareness on how to read and understand labels on the food packaging like “Best Before Dates”, “Expiry Dates”, “Storage Conditions” and the importance of appropriate Hygiene Practices, in addition to training sessions for Street Food Vendors, and industry.
The Walkathon would encompass several parallel activities comprising interactive demonstrations like those of appropriate Hand wash Practices, Personal and Food Hygiene Practices, Thematic Performances, Painting Competitions towards ensuring Safe Food.
The 6th Walkathon is scheduled in Pune on Sunday, 13th March 2016, Government Polytechnic Pune. We are expecting 1000+ people from all walks of life including industry people, Academia, General Consumer, street food vendors, senior citizens etc.
We are inviting VIPs and celebrities from sports and entertainment sectors to flag off the Walkathon. There would be parallel activities like sit and draw competition, Skits, quiz etc. We are also organizing a Competition for school students where they can participate in Painting & Dance Competition during the Walkathon. The theme for the competition would be “Safe and Hygienic Food for All”.
