Actor and Playwright Sandeep shikar started theatre with Dastak Sanskritik Manch, Dhanbad in 1993 and has trained as an actor from the Sri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, New Delhi, 2002. He is a member of the Lincoln Center Director’s Lab, New York, 2012. He is a recipient of Vinod Doshi Fellowship Award 2016-2017.

Sandeep co-founded ‘Indian Ensemble’ with Abhishek Majumdar, a Bangalore based theatre group. As an actor he has worked with many well-known theatre directors of the country and performed on national and international stages. As a writer, his work includes: ‘Treadmill’ produced by Indian Ensemble, ‘Naariyal Paani’ produced by Our Theatre, ‘Thook’ (co-writer with Irawati Karnik) produced by Indian Ensemble, commissioned by SchauSpielHaus Hamburg, Germany, ‘Deluxe Hair Cutting Salon’ produced by Mashaal Theatre group and ‘Open Cast’ produced by Mimansa Theatre.

Introduction: The workshop will familiarize students with a mix of acting/ devising processes to eventually enable participants to find their own process in the long run. The workshop will culminate in a short presentation of the pieces developed by the participating students.

Objectives: The overall objective of the course is to enable students to take a step forward towards creating their own work in the theatre. The training is a physical and imaginative approach towards devising, improvising and acting. The course will be open various backgrounds and languages.

Methodology: The methodology will be experiential  

    • Exercises and body work
    • Improvisation
    • Voice and speech
    • Exploration of text
    • Working with collaborators

Deliverables: The deliverables are two-fold. Firstly, for the participants to begin their own process of creating their own work and secondly, a final project at the end of the course, which will be again their own piece of theatre or performance art.

Structure of the Course: The course will engage with the following elements:

    • Movement Analysis
    • Improvisation
    • Understanding of given text
    • Voice and speech patterns
    • Devising / Creating one’s own work

Preferred Age / Segment of Customer: 16+

Course Duration: 

8 days program, 4 hours each day. Total 32 hours.

Scheduled on Saturday and Sunday 10 AM to 2 PM. Starting from 30th September 2017, Saturday
