March 2nd

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
…is a drama film directed by Stephen Daldry and starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and Thomas Horn. Loosely based on the terror attacks on the World Trade Centers on the 11th of September 2001, the movie tells the story of a nine-year-old quirky young boy Oskar Schell (Thomas Horn) with autistic-like symptoms who is trying to deal with the tragic loss of his father Thomas (Tom Hanks) who was killed when the World Trade Centers were attacked.

Determined to keep his vital connection to the man who playfully cajoled him into confronting his wildest fears, Oskar looks through his father’s belongings where he finds a key that sets him off on an urgent search across the city for the lock it will open. Encountering an eclectic assortment of people on the way who are each survivors in their own way – he begins to uncover unseen links to the father he misses and is to the mother who seems so far away from him and to the whole noisy, dangerous, discombobulating world around him.

 

The Devil Inside
…is a supernatural horror film directed by William Brent Bell and starring Fernanda Andrade and Simon Quarterman. The movie tells the story of a woman who travels to Italy to investigate exorcisms there in a search to also find out what goes on during the process since her mother murdered three people during her own exorcism.
Seeking to understand the truth about what happened that night. She travels to the Centrino Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Italy where her mother has been locked away to determine if her mother is mentally ill or demonically possessed. When she recruits two young exorcists (Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth) to cure her mother using unconventional methods combining both science and religion, they come face-to-face with pure evil in the form of four powerful demons possessing Maria.

 

The Iron Lady
…is a biographical film based on the life of the first and only female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, who is also the longest serving Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, with a focus on the price she paid for power.
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and starring Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent and Susan Brown, the movie tells the story of one of the 20th century’s most famous and influential women, and how she came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.

 

March 9th

John Carter
…is a sci-fi action movie directed by Andrew Stanton, starring Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins and based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan.
Set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars) the movie tells the story of a war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he is reluctantly caught up in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet. Finding himself a prisoner of 12-foot tall barbarians, he escapes, only to encounter a princess, Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins), who is in desperate need of a savior. In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

 

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
…is a comedy-drama film directed by John Madden and starring Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Dev Patel. The movie tells the story of a group of British retirees who decide to “outsource” their retirement to a less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly and forever charms the retirees in unexpected ways as it transforms by their shared experiences, letting them discover that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.

 

March 16th

Bel Ami
…is an erotic-drama film directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod. Based on French author, Guy de Maupassant’s, second novel of the same name, the movie stars Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas and tells the story of a young man’s rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city’s most influential and wealthy women.

 

Hugo
…is an adventure drama film directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Chloe Moretz , Emily Mortimer and Jude Law. Set in the 1930’s in Paris, the movie is based on Brian Selznick’s novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret and tells the story of a young orphan boy who lives in the walls of a Paris train station who is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father’s invention.

 

This Means War
…is a romantic action comedy film directed by McG and starring Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. The movie tells the story of two inseparable best friends who are also the world’s deadliest CIA operatives. Inseparable, they always have the others back, until they fall for the same beautiful lady.
Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest enemy ever – each other.

 

March 23rd

The Hunger Games
…is a sci-fi action drama directed by Gary Ross and based on the novel of the same name written by Suzanne Collins. Starring Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence the movie is set in the future of what was once North America and tells the story of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her journey through the fight to the death matches of the Hunger Games that are set for a teenage boy and girl from the twelve districts by the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem.
The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains, a twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic.
Volunteering to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match and pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

 

Think Like A Man
…is a romantic comedy directed by Tim Story and starring Chris Brown, Gabrielle Union and Kevin Hart. Based on Steve Harvey’s book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, the story tells the story of four interconnect and diverse men whose love lives are shaken up after the ladies they are pursuing buy Harvey’s book and start taking his advice to heart. When the men realize that they have been betrayed by one of their own, they conspire to turn the tables on their women using the book’s insider information to teach the women a lesson of their own.

 

We Bought A Zoo
…is a comedy drama film directed by Cameron Crowe and based on a true life story and the memoir of Benjamin Mee. Starring Scarlett Johansson and Matt Damon, the movie tells the story of Benjamin Mee and his family who after the death of his wife moves his family to the country side in southern California where he buys a house that comes with a zoo and how they take on the challenge to renovate and re-open it to the public.

 

The Vow
…is a romantic drama directed by Michael Sucsy and based on a true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter from Farmington, New Mexico, who wrote a book about their marriage, also known as The Vow.
Starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum and the movie tells the story of how Paige (McAdams acting as Krickitt Carpenter) loses all her recent memory in a car accident, Ten weeks after their wedding on 18 September 1993, where she and her husband are hit by a speeding truck, putting her in a coma.
When she wakes up with severe memory loss caused by brain trauma leaving her memory blank of her romance with Leo (Tatum acting as Kim Carpenter) as well as their recent marriage, Leo, who is still madly in love with Paige, works hard to win her heart again even though she views him as a stanger.

 

March 28th

A Separation
…is an Iranian drama directed by Asghar Farhadi. Set in contemporary Iran, the film focuses on a Iranian middle class couple who separate due to conflicts that arise between them. Starring Peyman Moaadi, Leila Hatami and Sareh Bayat, the movie tells the story of how a married couple, faced with the difficult decision of whether to move to another country so as to improve the life of their daughter or to stay back in Iran and look after a deteriorating father who has Alzheimer’s disease.
Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh, suing for divorce when Nader refuses to leave behind his Alzheimer-suffering father. Her request having failed, Simin returns to her parents’ home, but Termeh decides to stay with Nader. When Nader hires a young woman to assist with his father in his wife’s absence, he hopes that his life will return to a normal state. However, when he discovers that the new maid has been lying to him, he realizes that there is more on the line than just his marriage.

 

March 30th

Wrath of the Titans
…is a fantasy film directed by Jonathan Liebesman and starring Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Sam Worthington. A sequel to the move Clash of the Titans (released in 2010), the movie follows again the journey of Perseus (10 years later), this time as he embarks on the treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue his father, the God Zeus, who has been targeted for capture by his traitorous son, Ares, and his brother, Hades as the struggle for supremacy rages again between the gods and the Titans.
