Flash Mob @ Hyderabad

On the 27th of November 2011, the Mumbai Railway station witnessed the city’s first flash Mob. And no I don’t mean an angry mob throwing stones and creating a ruckus, I’m talking about a random person suddenly dancing to music that’s playing over the sound system.

Sounds funny, wait till you see it, it will amaze you. Because this one person is soon joined by many many many more people, creating a huge dance group grooving to the beats of famous songs in unison.

How is that possible? Well the dance is actually per-planned and organized while members of the dance group meet up and practice till it’s time to put up the show. Here’s how it works.

As soon as the designated dancer starts dancing in a public area, it immediately grabs the attention of people who start gathering around curious to see what’s going on and then the wow factor starts as other members (usually 50-100 – sometimes more) of the group join in dancing with the same timed and choreographed moves. And with most dancers dressed in casual attire, you’ll never know who and when will suddenly join and start dancing. Of course the UTMOST security care has been kept in mind as well to take care and control such a huge gathering Mob crowd.

The performance usually catch the audience unawares but in the end the entire spectacle just creates lots of energy, claps and entertainment which is specially good when the group is either trying to put out awareness or citizen initiative messages. In fact, the Flash Mob Dances in Mumbai done by the youth at the Mumbai CST railway station and Airport were such citizen initiatives.

Here’s a video of the flash mobs at Mumbai railway station and Airport,

These videos of the dance sequence have become the second most viewed videos on the net after ‘Kolaveri Di.’ And most who saw the videos wished they could see the spectacle live in their cities, and I’m sure they’ll soon be there, but the thing is you’ll never know when and where the flash mob will turn up coz they tell no one.

Those lucky enough the be at the right place at the right time can experience the flash mob and I have to say, if you still haven’t heard, those who were lucky enough to have been at Hyderabad’s GVK One Mall Sunday evening that is the 11th of December 2011 got to witness first hand, Hyderabad’s first Flash mob.

Yes that’s right they were in Hyderabad on Sunday. Here’s a look at what they did.

The performers certainly left the crowds at GVK Mall surprised, amazed and totally entertained for a whole 10 minutes, and anyone who watched the dance on video certainly wished they were at the scene. But like I said, you’ll never know when and where the flash mob will hit.

I guess the best thing to do is just try and join the dance group for practices. Now if only we knew who to contact. hmmmm
