The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) introduced a pilot project serving piping hot and hygienic meals for the poor and needy at a rockbottom price of Rs 5, in association with Hare Krishna Foundation, more than a year ago. By the turn of a one year by mid-March this year, the mission proved to be a runaway hit with the needy. The GHMC feels proud of taking part in what can be described as one of the noblest of services as it could mitigate the hunger of 12.59 lakh people in one year.

While 22 centres were set up for serving the food, over 8,000 people have their lunch in them across the City. All major hospitals, bus stations, railway stations, and other populous places were chosen for opening these centres. Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Somesh Kumar has taken the initiative and partnered Hare Krishna Foundation. Students are also making use of the facility at different places including at City Central Library in Chikkadpally.

Where is it cooked?

The food is cooked at a centralised kitchen by Hare Krishna Foundation at Patancheru is delivered by vans at the GHMC food centres

The food is cooked in a hygeinic manner in squeaky clean kitchens.

The food is served hot and tasty.

Where are the food centres located?

Nampally Sarai, Mehdipatnam bus stand, Guddimalkapur, Chintalbasti, Langer Houz, LB Nagar, Charminar, Secunderabad Clock Tower, Liberty Cross Road, Madhapur, Moosapet, Kukatpally, Khairatabad, NIMS Hospital, Ashok Nagar library centre, Monda Market, Lalapet and others.

The GHMC proposes to increae the number to 50.

How much does the food cost?

The consumer pays Rs 5 per meal.
But the total cost works out to Rs. 22.50.
The GHMC contributes Rs. 15 per meal
Hare Krishna Foundation offers Rs. 2.50
The consumer pays Rs. 5.

Why Donate

Donate generously. There is nothing nobler than donation of food. Filling a hungry stomach is not only extremely satisfying, but gives immense pleasure of giving.

The GHMC will make arrangements to display names of sponsors and donors. Besides, those who would ike to use their important occasions flike birthdays, anniversaries and in memory of floved ones can also use their opportunity.

All donations will be eligible for income tax exemption as per rules.
